Education

I have a Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology from the University of California at Berkeley (May 2014). I graduated with High Honors and Highest Distinction in Scholarship (summa cum laude). I was also the recipient of the most prestigious award in the Anthropology Department, The McCown Award, awarded to the most outstanding graduating senior in the class.

Experience

I have four years tutoring experience in both Long Beach and Berkeley, CA. I was most recently a tutor for the Athletic Study Center at U.C. Berkeley and tutored students in anthropology, history, sociology, and religious studies. Previously I was a tutor at the Writing and Reading Success Center at Long Beach City College where I assisted students with essays, formulating ideas, study skills, vocabulary, and proof reading. I work well in groups as well as one-on-one. In addition to my scholarly achievements I am proponent of actively engaging myself, as well as my students, in the disciplines they are studying. I was the President of the Anthropology Undergraduate Association as well as a research assistant to tenured faculty in the Anthropology Department. My own research can be described as interdisciplinary, yet firmly rooted in classic social theory. I am a staunch believer in the value of a liberal arts education and try to fill gaps in my students training when I find a lack in foundational concepts and knowledge.

Hobbies

I am well traveled, I have traveled in thirteen countries, and lived in Germany for two years prior to attending college. I carry with me varied life experiences that allow students to see me as not only a mentor and tutor, but someone who has been through exactly what they are going through. My outgoing and friendly personality allows me to connect with students easily. My personal interests are in arts, music, and film. I also as have a deep interest in the history of religions and the philosophical traditions of the world. I am an avid drummer and have played on several CD's.
