2 years as substitute teacher I have had a life-long passion for math. It was my favorite subject in school and I love passing along my passion to new learners. I have worked with students as young as 4 years old and as old as 20. Beyond my paid work, I am constantly helping my family members with their math studies; from high school to college math. My approach to teaching is not just to spout facts at a learner but to make the learning experience a team effort. I compare my attitude toward tutoring to teaching someone to ride a bike. I can explain the process for hours, but until the learner is on the bike nothing will be gained. The learner is the one who pedals the bike and has my assistance in steering. Eventually the learner becomes more comfortable and my aide is needed less, until we get to the point where I can let go. There may be wipeouts, but we never give up.
